Latest Updates from Our Project:

House Rules on Flannels
8 months ago – Wed, Sep 13, 2023 at 09:05:33 AM

I've just posted an update to my inaugural KS project, Stop the Train! reflecting on what I could have done differently... and this reminded me that I have one small change I'd love to have implemented on Hit the Silk!

On Your Turn

In many games, I have found that player actions (either as a victim or a perpetrator) may result in a player holding more than 1 flannel. In these situations, players are handicapped to a degree by what they can achieve when drawing a new card as this action is limited to once per turn (deliberately so - otherwise a player may extend their turn by getting more visits to the draw pile).

So, is there a way of solving this? Yes, I think.

We play a house rule here that enables players to discard 1 or 2 flannels at the START of their turn and draw 1 or 2 replacements from the draw pile.

This is different to point 2 of the ON YOUR TURN card (pictured below) and can be done in addition to this action. The difference is that 'CHANGE ONE OF YOUR CARDS' gives you a choice according to the current altitude of the aircraft (up to 4 cards), whereas flannels replacement is a straight 1 for 1 swap. It does not impact the altimeter.

It has been limited to the START of the turn so that no player is rewarded for antagonistic behaviour (like poisoning/shooting/handcuffs) during their turn. It's designed to assist disadvantaged players who have suffered misfortunes since their last turn; and it holds off on replacing a flannel from attacking moves until the following round, unless that player chooses to 'CHANGE ONE OF YOUR CARDS' with the flannel that resulted from the attacking move. That's a slightly clumsy explanation, so I hope it's meaning is clear.

If this game is to be printed again, I would implement this change on the card below as well as tidy up a couple of other issues including the box insert depth, rule clarifications and some card/rulebook errata.

That's all for now... I hope you've enjoyed playing. Thanks for backing this one! (It's become my favourite of the two). It's certainly sold well beyond the KS campaign, so thanks for your support.

No Rolls Barred / Essen
over 2 years ago – Sat, Oct 09, 2021 at 08:49:23 AM

Hi all,

LANDING NOW

So, fulfilment has now been organised for all backers and we're coming to end of our flight on Kickstarter! If you've not already received the game (or notification that it's on its way), please do let me know. Once again, it's been quite humbling to have had so much support and we're grateful for you guys helping us realise the dream of making the game.

NO ROLLS BARRED

You might have caught sight of Hit the Silk! on the popular YouTube channel 'No Rolls Barred'. It's an entertaining watch! (NB - occasional strong language)

ESSEN

Escape Plan Board Games won't be attending Essen as a trader, but I shall be attending as a visitor on Thursday 14th and Friday 15th October.

I mention this in case any European backers are going to be there and wanted to collect either a free rulebook reprint or buy a box insert (or anything else - just DM me to discuss).

You can buy a box insert here:

https://escapeplanboardgames.com/product/hit-the-silk-box-insert-essen-collect/

But you'll need to pick it up from me on the Thursday or the Friday 14th/15th Oct in Essen.

Cargo drops in North America!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Sep 22, 2021 at 12:13:10 PM

Hey all,

Cargo has landed in Orlando!

We've finally cleared customs and QML are well prepared to begin shipping Hit the Silk! to all you wonderful North Americans.

QML are sending emails to you today with address verification, so if there are any last minute changes, you can let them know ahead of the planned despatch date. You can do this today or tomorrow.

QML are then planning to begin packaging up the orders on 24th September, with a view to having them despatched by Monday 27th.

Their usual modus operandi is to have a van drive any orders for Canada across the border, deal with the customs fees and despatch with about 1-2 weeks lag behind the US.

All being well, this will be our final update on fulfilment.

EXPOS

In the near future for Escape Plan Board Games, we will again by present at the virtual AwShux show in late October (online) and are currently looking into Dragonmeet (London, UK). Unfortunately, we can't attend SPIEL in Essen this year, but it's very much on the radar for 2022.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE

The team is now dedicating more time to developing the upcoming Kickstarter: Run for your Life - do click that link to get notified of when we go live - set to be sometime in the Winter 2021/22

FEEDBACK

We're seeing lots of positive feedback come in for the game. We do hope you enjoy it. Please do get in touch if you'd like to chat about any aspects of the game.

Thanks again for helping us make Hit the Silk! a reality.

And I'll sign off from the whole team and significant contributors here:

A ship leaves Hamburg
over 2 years ago – Mon, Aug 16, 2021 at 08:41:02 PM

Hey all

It's another fulfilment update and slightly more concrete timings and information available this time.

Finished Rulebooks!

Download Option:

The corrections to the game play guide have been made and you can now get hold of PDFs of the updated rulebook online at https://escapeplanboardgames.com/downloads/ and I've also included A4 versions for print as requested.

Printed Copy Options:

If you haven't received your pledge yet, the relevant rulebooks will come in the parcel along with the game/add-ons. You'll need to replace the erroneous booklet in the Hit the Silk! box.
If you have already received your pledge (e.g. Europe and a few UK backers), you can still receive the booklets for £0 + shipping. Fortunately, they come in under 100g so they can be sent anywhere for just £2. You can order them at our shop: https://escapeplanboardgames.com/shop/
With it, you can also get hold of the Extra Cargo rulebook. I'll cross reference the order with your pledge and include this if you historically ordered the Extra Cargo add-on.

North America Fulfilment Update

I don't have firm timings for you yet, but I do have a progress update! After some paperwork delays, the games left Hamburg on a ship on 9th August and they are due to arrive in New York in 3 days from now. After that, it has to pass through customs and make its way to Quartermaster Logistics in Florida.

In the mean time, I'm preparing a second shipment of the fresh rulebooks to join them and we anticipate fulfilment sometime in September. Canada will follow the USA with about a week lag as QML arranges the stock to pass across the border by truck. I'll keep you up to date with progress as I get it.

UK & Rest of the World Fulfilment Update

The stock is with Zatu and they are standing by to receive the rulebooks. I'm currently packing them into envelopes and marking them with barcodes and SKU numbers to help the fulfilment process. Assuming I get them there by Friday this week, Zatu are aiming to have everything sent by the Friday after (27th August). Not long now!

Box Inserts

We have a small supply of customised Box Inserts. We are not able to ship these with existing parcels as they are being produced locally and initially are making them available for UK backers. Again, you can find these over at https://escapeplanboardgames.com/shop/

If they prove popular, we will look into how easy they are to protect and ship internationally.

Escape Plan at UK Events

We'll be demo-ing Hit the Silk! at the D20 Board Game Cafe in Watford on 2nd Sept. Details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2948449098768713/

We'll also be showing all of our games at the Canterbury Game Convention on 4/5th Sept. Details here: https://www.facebook.com/canterburygamingcon/

Annual Leave

As a heads up, I'm away for a 10-day break from Friday, so please be patient if you send me a message!

Have a wonderful day!

Brendan

Rulebook reprint
over 2 years ago – Fri, Aug 06, 2021 at 03:00:44 AM

Hi all,

I hope you're having a good week. We've recently come back from the UK Games Expo where we were exhibiting Hit the Silk! It was received very well in the demo games - and that's beginning to be reflected by some positive ratings on Board Game Geek - do add your thoughts there.

We were also delighted to meet some of our UK backers, who were able to collect their pledge from the first pallet that arrived in the UK.

Let me update you on a few things:

Stock Arrives in the UK!

The remainder of our stock arrived in the UK 2 days ago at the Zatu warehouse. They have advised that they are able to begin distribution in 1 week. I've asked them to hold off a little longer so that we can include a rulebook reprint. This will mean a short delay on fulfilment (estimated at +10 days) but that a corrected rulebook will come with your shipment. Since we are doing this, we also have the opportunity to send through a printed rulebook for the Extra Cargo guide, which we needed to provide online as we weren't able to meet the print deadlines for the add on pack to include it.

Rulebook reprint

Further to our previous update detailing a couple of errors relating to the altimeter, we are providing a reprint of the rulebook. The changes have been made and the files sent off for print. We plan to have this despatched with any unfulfilled orders. This will delay fulfilment by approximately 2 weeks. It's already available to download if you are in Europe and/or have the game already.

Extra Cargo guide

Thus far, the guide for Extra Cargo has been provided as a web page, but our designer, Gareth, has been working on a version for PDF and professional print. Here's a sample from the pages:

Work in Progress

By Monday this guide will have been proof-read again and will be sent off for print. We'll also update the page on our site so the PDF version of these rules can be accessed.

That's the main update from me.

Thanks,

Brendan

A short postscript:

  • I've just backed a fast pace Viking game called Langskip. Might be of interest to some of you, as it does include bluffing and deceit. I didn't get a chance to play it at the Expo, but did see it on my tour of the other stands and Niall the creator was very passionate about it, which is a good sign!
  • We also got a chance to demo some of the core mechanics of Run for your Life! at the UK Games Expo... that was also well received. We've got a small following at our pre-launch page, where you can get notified of the upcoming launch
